Explorer Post 409 honor guard presenting the colors at a community parade

Hernando County Sheriff's Office

Explorer Post 409

A youth law enforcement program for middle and high school students ages 14 to 21. Learn the job before the job — discipline, service, and the principles behind the badge.

What we do

Built for future officers

Law Enforcement Principles

Constitutional law, use-of-force policy, ethics, and the duty a badge carries — taught the way deputies learn it.

Hands-On Scenarios

Traffic stops, building searches, radio procedure, and report writing practiced under deputy supervision.

SQUADS & LEADERSHIP

Every Explorer is part of a squad—and every Explorer has the opportunity to lead. Rise through the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant, take on greater responsibility, and help develop the Explorers coming up behind you.

A Real Head Start

Competitions, ride-alongs, and community service that put you years ahead when you apply to an academy.

Lectures from the units

Taught by the deputies who do the job

Explorers receive lectures and demonstrations from units across the Sheriff's Office — each one led by the deputies and specialists who work that assignment every day.
